JAMB Most Sought-After Universities (2012-2016) - Why Are They The Most-Sought After?

Jamb 2017

Going by the statistics made available by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board JAMB, showing the most sought after universities between 2012 and 2016 (2015 data was omitted in the information provided by JAMB), the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN is the most sought after university in Nigeria having recorded 411,340 representing 25 % of all UTME applications within the years under review.

University of Benin is the 2nd most sought after university in Nigeria having recorded 331,178 representing 20.56 per cent of of all UTME applications within the years under review

UNIZIK came 3rd having recorded 305,790 representing 18.65 per cent of all UTME applications within the years under review.

The other universities that fall under the most sought after universities in Nigeria for undergraduate programmes in no particular order are; OAU, ABU. UNIUYO, IMSU, UNIJOS, UNIBADAN, BUK and UNILAG

It is remarkable to not that each of these universities had over 40,000 applications in each of the years under review.

Considering the fact that these universities can only accommodate a small fraction of the huge number of candidates that apply for admission yearly, yet every year many candidates still fill in these universities as their choices of school in UTME registration.

What do you think is the reason for this?

Is it the reputation of the schools? The quality of graduates? The affordability? The quality of staff/structures/facilities?

If you participated in 2017 JAMB UTME can you please share with us the name of the university you selected as your choice and Why so.
